There is an alternative
Public sector cuts, job losses, austerity, longer working lives, lower pensions – we’re told there is no other way; even the opposition Labour Party says it will continue to make cuts if it wins the next election.
So is there is no alternative? In the Green Party we think there is. We believe there are ways to look after those in our Society who fall on hard times, we believe the NHS should be free at the point of delivery and everyone should take home a living wage.
At our next Open Meeting we’ll look at not just why we’re against austerity but how things could be managed differently.
You are welcome to come and join us for a discussion led by speakers from the Green Party and other organisations.

Government Remploy decision criticised
The South East Dorset Green Party today condemned the govts decision to close the local Remploy citing it as another example where the most vulnerable in society are bearing the brunt of the crisis.
South East Dorset Green Party media officer Ryan Cleminson said "other than a politically motivated desire to slash public spending irrespective of the impact there really is no justification for this decision. We will be watching with interest to see what our local MPs have to say about this shameful situation"
Greens campaign against over developing the Pavilion area makes the press
Greens take a stand against 'son of IMAX'
Press Release
The South-East Dorset Greens have raised opposition to a multi million pound scheme that is being proposed in the center of Bournemouth by developer Trevor Osbourne.
The Party's media relations officer Ryan Cleminson said the plan was "the wrong idea that would do nothing for local small business but and would also ruin what is protected park land. The £55m pound scheme will be totally out of character and the design of the building will add even more over bearing concrete to an area already blighted by the IMAX building. There are many other ways the Council can bring jobs to the community without over developing yet another open space.
We ask the council to rethink this scheme.

SED Green Party Support for Public Sector Workers
Today (30th November, 2011) South East Dorset Green Party recorded its full support for the action taken by Public Sector workers in defence of their pensions. We do not believe the crisis should be paid for by those who had no part in its creation and call for an alternative programme to tackle the debt through a range of policies including effective taxation of the very wealthy and large corporations, reduction in arms expenditure (e.g. cancelling Trident) and investing heavily in renewable energy creating thousands of needed jobs to bring about a transformation of our energy supply and in doing so boosting the economy.

Press Release in Support of Occupy Bournemouth
South East Dorset Green Party issued the following Press Statement today, Wednesday 9th November...
Green Party in Bournemouth and Poole calls for Bournemouth Council to withdraw its legal action to remove protesters at Occupy Bournemouth.
“Not only do we defend their right to protest we also applaud their actions in highlighting the issue of the increasingly dysfunctional banking system that appears to have learnt nothing from the chaos it has created and continues to demand ‘we’, the public, pay for their crisis whilst millions continue to be paid in bonuses to the Banking elite. These protesters are not alone and whilst small in number locally are part of a movement that now covers many hundreds of cities across scores of countries worldwide. Like many of us they feel our mainstream politicians no longer listen to the people and are more interested in serving the ‘markets’ and big corporations. We wish them luck and call on Bournemouth council to do what the majority of local authorities have across the world, work with the protesters to enable them to have their voices heard.”
Further information on The Green Party’s response to the Occupy Movement, Occupy London and Caroline Lucas’ visit to the protest available on request.

“Where next for Green Politics?”
We’re at a crucial moment. The climate crisis is growing but the issue remains largely out of the media and ‘deniers’ command a disproportionate amount of coverage.
The Coalition is failing us – the ‘Greenest Government Ever’ is dismantling key legislation whilst playing up the importance of ‘commitments’ that have no real means of achieving what is required.
Labour, already offering little in way of opposition to the brutal public sector cuts, is almost invisible when it comes to having a coherent policy on climate change, favouring nuclear and unsustainable growth.
More positively small, local groups and ‘bottom up’ initiatives continue to be built. But can they succeed without National, or even International, political will?
What can be done? Where should we focus our efforts?
What can we learn from the ‘new’ activist movements?
Come and join the debate - we look forward to seeing you there!
The Green Party is a grass roots movement – our beliefs are enshrined in our ‘philosophical basis’ but everyone can contribute to the development of our policies. Locally we’re building our new local manifesto and you can play a part via these meetings.
Save Our NHS
31 AUGUST 2011
In just one week, your MP has to vote on massive changes to our NHS. But 38 Degrees members now have something our MPs don’t – thorough, independent legal advice about what these changes really mean.
Their expert legal advice is sobering. Despite the “listening exercise”, the government’s changes to the NHS plans could still pave the way for a shift towards a US-style health system, where private companies profit at the expense of patient care.
South East Dorset Green Party encourages all members and supporters to read the full article and take action today.
Next Members Meeting
22 AUGUST 2011
The next members meeting will be held on Saturday 10th October in Parkstone. Further details and information from any local party contact.
British society is not "sick"
19 AUGUST 2011
Earlier this month, a spate of terrifying violence and disorder erupted onto our streets. Communities were terrorised, individuals attacked and city centres trashed. Horrendous images on our TV screens of burning buildings and mindless looting created a climate of fear in which people were scared to leave their homes - and in which public trust in the capacity of our police force to respond effectively was shaken.
